Accounts, sign-in & recovery
How signing in to Horoptic works — email one-time code and optional passkeys — plus account recovery.
You only need an account for the cloud half — the Director, generation, sync, and server-rendered masters. The manual editor is free, offline, and account-less.
Signing in
- Email one-time code. We send a short code to your inbox — no password to choose or forget.
- Google sign-in is coming. It isn’t available in the beta yet — the email code is the door today.
- Add a passkey. Once you’re in, turn on a passkey on the device you work from. It makes sign-in faster and phishing-resistant — and it is required before anything can spend credits.
Why a passkey is required to spend
The email code gets you in, and an email-code session is enough to edit, sync, and browse your account. But anything that spends — approving a generation, using the AI Director — is gated behind a passkey, as are exporting or deleting your account data. On an email-code session those actions are refused and you’ll be asked to add a passkey first.
That is deliberate: an emailed code is only as strong as your inbox, and we would rather not let whoever reaches your inbox spend your balance.
Recovery
If you lose access to a device, you sign back in the same way — an email one-time code — and then enroll a passkey on the new device. Until you do, the recovered session can edit and sync but cannot spend credits or run the Director, so a freshly recovered session can’t quietly drain your balance.
